Maya Powis, Vice President South Bay Region

Ms. Powis joined The John Stewart Company (JSCo) in early 2001, beginning a long and accomplished career within the organization. During her first decade with the company, she held a variety of roles across the Accounting, Administration, and Property Management divisions, gaining a comprehensive understanding of JSCo’s operations and organizational structure.

With more than 25 years of experience in the affordable housing industry, Ms. Powis has developed deep expertise in all aspects of affordable housing management. She has held positions ranging from Property Manager to her current role as Vice President of the South Bay Region, where she oversees a diverse and growing portfolio of more than 8,000 affordable and mixed-income housing units. In this capacity, she manages all aspects of administrative operations, property management, and regulatory compliance for the region.

After a brief tenure with a nonprofit affordable housing developer, Ms. Powis returned to JSCo in 2013 as a Director, taking on oversight of a significant regional portfolio. Over the following decade, her dedication to building strong partnerships and delivering high-quality service contributed to the South Bay Region’s continued growth and operational excellence.

Ms. Powis is well-versed in a variety of federal and state affordable housing programs, including HUD, LIHTC, Project-Based Section 8, HOME, and multiple HCD programs. She has extensive experience collaborating with public agencies and clients on complex housing issues, leading tax credit acquisitions, new development lease-ups, and property transitions from other management firms.

In addition to her leadership role at JSCo, Ms. Powis serves on the Board of Directors of the Affordable Housing Management Association of Northern California and Hawaii (AHMA-NCH) and holds multiple professional certifications in affordable housing management.
